About the Mission at Kern County
The Mission at Kern County is the community’s largest provider of emergency shelter services providing comprehensive care to those experiencing homelessness. We serve three meals every day, offer a safe place to sleep, and provide access to hygienic services, including showers and medical care.

Encore Boutique is a unique retail space in Bakersfield, dedicated to curating a fabulous selection of gently used clothing, and accessories — all while supporting the life-transforming programs offered by The Mission at Kern County.

About this Opportunity
We are seeking an energetic and customer-focused individual to join our team as a part-time Sales Associate. In this role, you will provide exceptional service to our customers, assist in maintaining a vibrant store environment, and contribute to the overall success of our boutique. Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide outstanding customer service by greeting and assisting customers with their shopping experience.
• Restock merchandise, arrange displays, and keep the store neat to maintain a well-organized and visually appealing sales floor.
• Process transactions accurately and efficiently using the point-of-sale system.
• Compute sales prices and total purchases and receive and process cash or credit payments.
• Open and close cash registers, performing tasks such as counting money, separating charge slips, coupons, and vouchers, balancing cash drawers, and making deposits.
• Bag or package purchases.
• Educate customers about our Mission and the story behind our boutique.
• Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices.
• Assist with inventory management, including receiving, sorting, pricing, and tagging new merchandise.
• Work collaboratively with team members to achieve sales goals and foster a positive work environment.
• Participate in promotional events and sales initiatives as needed.
• Assist in job training of men and women in the residential program.

• High School diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Knowledge of basic computer functions.
• Must be able to pass a post-offer background check and drug screen.
• Experience in retail sales or customer service. (Preferred)
• Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems. (Preferred)
• Experience working in a team-oriented environment. (Preferred)

• Proper telephone etiquette and ability to operate telephone equipment for communication purposes.
• As The Mission at Kern County is a faith-based organization, employees may be required to participate in daily devotions and weekly chapels, depending on their scheduled shifts.
